West Branch SP, Ohio—Shakedown
Shakedown
Our first adventure for 2021 was to have been our shakedown...good thing we’re doing it, for sure. We forgot our bikes. The hot water wasn’t working and in trouble shooting that, we found out we didn’t winterize it properly....we may have burned out heating elements....haha. Oh, and the grey tank valve needed to be kept shut, not open, in the winter in order for it to have a solid seal now. It is leaking.
We chose a state park close to home: West Branch SP in the Ravenna area. Really nice park! They did a great job with laying out the campsites and Dan is getting to be really good at backing into parking spaces.
In some ways, it was harder to pack for this little two night trip! We barely needed a change of clothes for only one full day in camp....so there were some forgotten things. But that will help us remember when we leave on our big trip.
Dan is amazing with figuring things out. If I didn’t have him, I’d be doing it all, all by myself. I’m grateful—very grateful.
Made hamburgers at home this morning before we left. Three pounds of ground beef makes a LOT of burgers but we can freeze some. Also grilled some onions and peppers on the Blackstone, and grilled the buns too! Yum.
I tried to join my Monday night Zoom knitters but found that my two bars of cellular was not enough to push my video and audio to the rest of the group. I could see and hear them just fine. Just had to try to see if it could work...it sort of worked. (If I had 4-5 bars, I bet it would’ve been fine.)
We took a walk around the park after dinner. I hope you enjoy the photos. I need to do a LOT more hiking. The path here was really soggy after rain and sleet all day yesterday. Today we had temps in the 50s, maybe even the low 60s. Very pleasant.
Lots of flowering wild dogwood in this area
I have NO idea what this shrub is. But it is stunning at this time of year!

Tomorrow: a day in the park; Dan has two Zoom meetings!
Can't wait to see what the long journey will bring you guys! Holly
