Day 41: 3 July 2021 (Happy Wedding Day, Shanna and Jake!)
Where it takes longer than we’d hoped to arrive in Cannon Beach, OR, AND we see lots (LOTS) of trees!
 |
After not having ridden for a long time, we took our lives in our hands by riding through a busy Hemlock Avenue in Cannon Beach, home to restaurants, breweries, art galleries, and various and sundry tourist enticements. I didn’t actually get to walk on the beach, but I got a photo of Dan with famous Haystack Rock taken from Ocean Avenue. My goal: walk the beach with no schedule before we leave on Monday. |
 |
Everything else in this post is from our drive today. Another shot of wonderful Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park. It’s over 600 feet deep in spots and today was very blue. Gorgeous. |
 |
Much of our trip was like this: trees ahead, on both sides and up the mountain slopes. Lots and lots of trees. Very green. So much green and so many shades of green. It was a free gift. |
 |
We stopped for gas in Forks, WA, a town that seemed down on its luck these days. Forks had a very nice totem pole. It had that going for it. |
 |
These trees kind of remind me of Monterey, CA. We stopped at a pullout for lunch in the RoadHouse. The waves serenaded us. |

Weeds and a beach can be pretty even on a foggy day. |

Astoria-Megler Bridge is a steel cantilever through truss bridge in the northwest United States, spanning the Columbia River 14 miles from its mouth. (Thank you, Wikipedia). When it was finished in 1966, it completed Hwy 101 between Olympia, WA and Los Angeles, CA. It is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America. |

Lots of trusses! |
Tomorrow we go to some fort for more Lewis and Clark history. (I’ve about had it with L&C, truth be told!) But then, at some point, we’ll have a nice meal out and I am mandating that we walk the beach so I can take some photos. Maybe we’ll stop in at a gallery….stay tuned!
Your view from the dining room is very nice! Your adventures continue. Careful on those bikes.
