Texas: driving day to Big Bend
26 April 2022
While it was a LONG driving day (longest on our trip), the scenery kept changing to entertain us. Very interesting. I was thinking about geology a good deal on this drive!
We got the RoadHouse parked and (nearly) level with the help of our nice neighbors (sometimes some help is too much help…? 😬) and got dinner out at The Chili Pepper Cafe. Unpretentious Mexican fare served by a gal who seemed to be running the place single-handedly—and they were busy!
I hope you enjoy a few photos taken from a moving vehicle. That spaghetti intersection was in Austin as we were leaving. It was overcast and rainy for the first 4-5 hours of the trip, then it cleared to bright blue skies and various versions of white clouds. We’re on the tail tail end of the desert bloom here; about all we saw on our way was a little red flower on the end of sprays of “sticks”; I thought it was ocotillo, but not sure about that….moving too fast to get a picture!
Tomorrow we will head out early to visit as much as we can in one day at Big Bend National Park. There is also a Big Bend State Park nearby so we might go there on Thursday. Gone are the cool breeze days—temps in the low to high 90s for the next couple of days! Stay tuned!
