Churchill Downs; April 20, 2023

We had pre-ordered our Kentucky Derby Museum tickets and were impressed with the size of the facility as we approached Churchill Downs. Our tour guide did a great job explaining about the history of Churchill Downs, the race itself, famous (and infamous) horses, and the jockeys. He was personable and knowledgeable—a good combo!

We were told that this is a gold trophy, but we were not told that this is a SOLID gold trophy. So, that is unknown.

Dan gets a feel for the starting gate..haha

We Like It Big: horseshoes (and, Dreams!)

The Grandstand

This was from the part of the museum where we learned about trainers. I was interested to see the shipping containers for the horses. I wonder what they think of flying??

I have no idea of the backstory on this piece—it was HUGE and impressive.

Dan and I split a mint julep (complete with souvenir glass!) at lunch. After that cocktail the day before at The Kitchen at Jim Beam, the one that allowed me to fall asleep and sleep all afternoon, we decided to share the “Mint Julep Experience”. Ah, much better. #lightweights
