Rails to Trails to New Haven (20 July 2025)

West Farmington Rails to Trails

While this was the sign for the Rails to Trails going in the opposite direction from where we went, I have yet to master taking a photo while riding a bike! This was close to where we entered, so Dan suggested I get this one. The trail was really well maintained and we got there before the day got oppressively hot and humid so we had a really fun 5+ mile ride.

Dan found this little place literally a short walk from the bike trail parking lot. Cute “mom and pop” place with good food and really good service.

New Haven Lighthouse and Carousel

New Haven should hire me to do their tourism photos! Dan climbed up the “quite a few” steps in the lighthouse for the panoramic view at the top! (82 total steps, per Google)

I loved the black kelp on the rocks at low tide.

The New Haven Carousel—today, after seeing the Carousel Museum just yesterday!

It’s beautifully maintained.

The Carousel lives in this building.

Yale University, New Haven

Dan knows that I love exploring college campuses, and when in New Haven, how can I resist? Some of the best gothic and other architecture I’ve ever seen on a campus. I don’t know what most of these buildings are, but I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I did taking them!
“Light and Truth”, Yale’s motto, refers to a commitment to intellectual pursuit and the search for knowledge and understanding.

So. Many. Arches. I love them.
And this one was special for the series of arches one can see beyond this one.

Tomorrow: we head to Port Republic, NJ. Stay tuned!
