Whitestone Cliffs Trail, Plymouth, CT (18 July 2025)

 Plymouth, CT

Googling “hiking trails near me” brought us to the Whitestone Cliffs Trail, about a mile from our campsite. I was under the delusion that this “wouldn’t be too bad” even with 400’ of elevation gain according to AllTrails. What I wasn’t counting on was clambering over boulders for more than half of it. Both going up and coming down and then going up again. We ended up doing less than half of the actual trail, but we had some really good exercise even for that. I’m pretty sure I would’ve been nervous to do this one on my own due to balance issues. What a gift is a solid hand up when you’re hoisting yourself up a big step. It was the nicest day of the trip so far and after driving down from western Massachusetts, we were antsy to get out and get some exercise.

I LOVE finding red mushrooms in the wild.

I really enjoy “light and shadow”. I especially liked the fern shadows (even though the toe of my shoe made an appearance).

Just look at this green velvet carpet, would you…sigh.

Our “backyard neighbor” is apparently from Louisiana and keeps their rig here permanently. It’s the most lovely (ie: cooler and lower humidity!) day of our trip so far. And yes, I brought my petunias from home so they wouldn’t die. Plus, I just love the fancy schmancy touch they add to the entrance! 😸

Another state sticker stuck on the travel map of the US. Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey to go on this trip; South Carolina in the fall and then we will have camped in every state in the lower 48!

This weekend we will be exploring some of the sights/sites in Hartford and Bristol and maybe New Haven! Stay tuned….
